Exploring Voices of the Mind

Empowering Youth in the Northwest with Art, Science, and Technology

Introduction

‘Voices of the Mind’ is a public engagement project exploring inner speech - the internal dialogue we have with our minds.

We aim to empower young people aged 14-18 from diverse backgrounds with knowledge about their inner experiences, create interdisciplinary dialogue between science and art, reduce stigma around different thought patterns, and make neuroscience accessible to those traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.

Our project brings together scientists, artists, and young people to explore how our brains generate inner thoughts, how technology can help us understand these processes, and how creative expression can illuminate our internal experiences.

Objectives

  • Create and disseminate artworks of inner speech
  • Engage 300 young people through pop-up events
  • Increase learning and knowledge about inner experiences through interactive workshops
  • Synthesise insights into inner speech experiences of young people
